Here you are another task. This one is about getting understood in a restaurant ordering a meal, apologizing, making suggestions, asking for some changes on the menu. Well, trying to manage in order to get a good meal and a friendly atmosphere around that meal.
Have a look at these possible tasks and choose which you want, because I have to say that you definitely are working in a very good way. Congratulations to all of you!
1.- Try to role-play a real conversation at a restaurant, but take care because you are going to deal with some little problems you will have to solve as good as possible. Here you are some problematic situations, choose at least three of them and incorporate them in your dialogue but be careful with the waiter's / waitress' patience:
-
You booked a table for two, but now there are 3 of you. Explain to the waiter/waitress.
-
You aren't happy with your table. Iit's too near the window and a bit cold. Ask to move.
-
You only have a wine list, no a food menu. Call over the waiter/waitress and explain.
-
You don't eat meat, but fish is OK. Ask about the ingredients in one of the dishes.
-
You want to know what the ( choose any plate) is. Ask the waiter/waitress.
-
You don't like rice but you like salad. Ask to change the garnish in one of the courses.
2.- You are working at a pizzeria taking phone calls from customers. A woman is going to phone you in order to order a pizza, but she has some problems since it's the first time she orders a pizza by phone. Help her and make her some suggestions and possibilities, as well you inform her about the price. You can use this website to get helped.
3.- You work in the Hilton Dublin Hotel, you are the restaurant manager. A couple has formulated a complaint about the service, try to apologize and give them reasons for coming back again to have dinner at your restaurant. Build a dialogue about the subject.
4.- Make an ideal and tasty menu for a special dinner. Give at least three possibilities for each course. You can look to these two English restaurants websites to have some good ideas. Click here for the first one. And in here for the following one.
5.- Describe your ideal restaurant to spend a good evening with your lover. Give as many details as you can. You can use the two websites I propose in number 4 in order to help you with the vocabulary and possible expressions.
6.- Make a list of useful questions, answers and expressions to manage in a restaurant.
Bye, bye!
Loli
