Food Defense by Laura

FOOD DEFENSE

Throughout these days, we have spoken about recipes, food around the world, transgenic food... but we haven't spoken about the importance of food defense. Do you know something about it?

- Food Defense is an outfit of efforts to prevent intentional contamination of food products by biological, chemical, physical or radiological agents that are not reasonably likely to occur in the food supply.
-It acquired more relevance after attacks to EE.UU in 2001 and it has been increasing nowadays, for that FD is the last chapter of IFS FOOD v.6 rule (recognised standard for auditing food safety and quality of processes and products of food manufacturers. It concerns food processing companies or companies that pack loose food products)
Do you know the difference between Food Safety and Food Defense?

Food Safety – the efforts to prevent unintentional contamination of food products by agents reasonably likely to occur in the food supply (e.g., E. coli, Salmonella, Listeria)

Now, it is the turn of the questions! Take your time to think the answers and next, share them at class.
