MALLORCA by Sheila

Hello classmates,

In September I had a wedding in Mallorca, one island of the Balearic Islands in Spain. I had the chance to visit the city for three days and I saw many places.

On the first day I went to see the cathedral and the old town by a horse-drawn carriage, despite the price was expensive, a day is a day, you only live once.  Moreover it was very funny.  After I went shopping on the "Passeig des born".

We saw many interesting places, for example: on the first day, a hospital built in Mallorca, a Gaudi's building, a three-hundred-year-old tree, theaters...

On the second day at night, we all went to have dinner in a restaurant at the sea port.

And on the third day, we went to an excellent site, a mountain in "Llucmajor", it was in a village really small but very nice and with amazing views.

 Do you know this town?
What do you think about this?

OUR TRIP TO SWITZERLAND by ROSI

Hello everyone,
This summer my lover and I were in Switzerland and Zurich. I just can say these countries are very very nice.
We were in the Seeburg hotel, it was about two kilometres far from the city centre, our suite was overlooking the Lucerne lake and the Alps. This hotel was fantastic and our stay there was splendid.

We visited the Swiss national park.  It was founded in 1914 as one of the first national parks in Europe, it is a sanctuary in which nature is protected everywhere.  It is between 1,400 and 3,173 meters above sea level, it is the unique national park of Switzerland , it has 172.3 km2 , 80 which are routes for walking and hiking. It is forbidden to ride a bike, sleep in tents and set fires. Edelweiss flower grows there, wildlife is everywhere..
However there are also hotels inside the park, such as; the Chamanna Cluozza, which is a comfortable hotel.  There we spent three days.

Val Minger in the Swiss Natonal Park in Canton Graubuenden.

Another day we went to the Alps, it was very nice but cold, although, it was worthy.
The Alps are relatively young mountains, they are still growing.
The weather in summer is about 30 or 35 degrees celsius, it depends on the elevation, as high as 4,000 meters above sea level the temperature is zero degrees celsius, but it can oscilate until 35 degrees celsius if elevation is only 500 meters.
Another day we were in Heidiland.  I was able to see where the cartoons were shooted and it was fantastic, because in my chilhood I liked and really enjoyed Heidi.

The next day we visited the most famous street in Zurich, which is called Bahnbofstrasse.  It is full of luxury shops selling designer fashion, porcelain, chocolates "of course", clocks and watches. This street is for driving you crazy, as a result, we bought many things.
For me chocolates and cheese are the best for a snack.

Moreover, there different languages are meeting together, such as,  German 65 percent, French 18 percent, Italian 10 percent and other ones 7 percent, and it really shocked me.
Our trip was varied and unforgettable.

See you. ROSI

Mother Road by Luis

Hello classmates,
I would like to go across the "Mother Road" in the United States of America. I would try to tell you what is more interesting in this journey.

Firstly I am going to tell you about the story of the road and then I will narrate where to eat and sleep as well as some interesting places.

The "Mother Road" or "Main Street of America" was built because of migration from the East to the West of the United States of America during 1920s and it was established on November 11th, 1926. Originally it ran from Chicago, Illinois, through Missouri, Kansas, Akkahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona before ending at  Los Angeles, and a few years later it arrived at Santa Monica, California, covering a total of 2,448 miles (3,940 km). And in spite of the Interstate Highway System, tourists are using this road.

For eating you can go to different restaurants. If you love the meat, you should go to the "Big Texas Steak Ranch" restaurant, in this restaurant they will give you for free a fillet of beef if you are able to eat it in one hour.   However if  you are for example in Kansas, you can eat the famous cakes "Mine Run Candy". Also, if you want to eat surrounded by trains your restaurant is "Ollies Station"

For sleeping you can choose  among some places, for example, the Wigwam Motel where you can sleep in a tipi or teepee, (this is a conical tent used by the nomadic tribes of the great plains), "the Horse hotel"  or "the Munger Moss Motel".

For a good and incredible view you should go to Grand Canyon of the Colorado River considered

one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World or you could dive on the beach where the "Baywatch" serie was recorded.

Then, if you want to see a really interesting place, you mustn't forget to stop in the Cadillac Ranch in Texas.

And finally when you arrive to Wilmington (Illinois), you can see some Muffler Men which are large moulded human statues placed as advertising icons of the United States. This Muffler Men is called "Gemini Giant"

I hope you like the composition and we can travel there someday.

  • Do you know how this road is officially called?
  • Would you like to do this trip? How would you prefer to do this trip by car or by a Harley Davidson motorbike?
  • Would you sleep in a teepee?
