ON HOLIDAYS IN DERBY

HELLO CLASSMATES!!!!!

I'm in Derby.  It's a city near of Liverpool and Birmingham. The distance from Derby to London is aproximately 200 km.  Here, I have got my friend Erika, she came here to work and live approximately two years ago.

She lives in a flat in the centre of Derby and I want to describe it, but she says her flat isn't a traditional English flat, in fact English people don't like these kind of flats, they prefer a house with a garden although they are further the centre of the town.

So, the distribution of the rooms isn't very different from Spain but I find some odd things. For example, on the floor there is a white carpet but there isn't in the bathrooms neither in the kitchen-dinning room.

In this flat, there are two interesting rooms and when I saw them I thought "I want to tell you about". The first is a small room where there is just a washing-machine and my friend says to me it is tipycal here and the second, it is another room where there is only the boiler. It's a big machine . As I wanted to show you I have taken two photographs so you can have a look.

The plugs are quite different, too. For example, in the kitchen there are plugs for hob, fridge, oven and extract hood and you switch them on or off for cooking or also you can maintain them always turned on.

The windows have a lock to open them but on the other hand the entrance door is opened and you have to be careful and remember to close it with key.  All the doors at home have a spring which obstructs and blocked them when they are opened, so the doors are always closed because the spring always close them. It's a fire-fighting way so the fires don't spread out.

In short, England is known as the country of health and safety!!!

Finally, the rubbish is collected every fifteen days!!!  It´s horrible when you see it but here it is this way.

I hope to come back soon and follow practising my English !!!
    See you in class....
    Eva.
