KYOTO PROTOCOL

Global Warming

Greenhouse effect is a natural process and withou it, life couldn't be possible in Earth Planet. But this effect has become an issue thanks to human activities. Have a look at this video from National Geographic:

Government Idea of Solution:

A Short explanation about The Kyoto Protocol.

The Kyoto Protocol (PK) is a compromise among the industrialized countries with the objective of reducing the emission of gases which cause the greenhouse effect. The convection only encourage to the different countries to do it.

The PK was structured to establish compulsory objectives to 37 countries since the EU recognizes they are the principal responsible of the high level of greenhouse gasses. This is the consequence of having burned fossil fuels for 150 years. The PK has a common axis: “common responsibility but differenced.” The PK has moved to governments to established laws and policies to comply their compromise.

The PK, signed in 1997, required to reduce emissions at least a 5.2%  (in reference to the emissions in 1990) but, ever since the beginning, countries like EEUU, Mexico, China, Brazil or India were not included.

In the next activity, there is a videoquiz explaining how the Kyoto Protocol works on the inside and what can we do to help (ideally):

Kyoto protocol

As usual, human behaviour has gone over the good purposes of the Kyoto Protocol and has found the leaks to gain profits with it with no real effort in reducing greenhouse gas emissions:

Doha Commitment: A new void promise?

The first period of the PK finished in 2012 and in that year the emission of greenhouse gasses grew a 2.6% and it was the double of 1990.

The meeting of Doha (Catar) postponed until 2013 the developed countries negotiation and in 2014 and 2015 several meetings will be held, and they are known as the Durban Platform, which put on the agenda a new global agreement in 2020.

Let's think together:

-       Do you think in 2020 thee will be a real agreement?

-       Do you think the main reasons are economical or are just related to an environmental sensibility?
