ADVICE

Hi Advanced students!

Here I've written a very simple explanation about how to give advice. We will practice it in class next Thursday.

Should, ought to, and had better are often used to give advice.
You should ask yourself exaclty what you want from a job.
You had better make changes before you take a new job.

  • Use should and ought to for general advice. You should assess yourself before you look for a job. She ought to look for a new job.

  • Use had better (not) only for very strong advice and warning. Had better (not) is much stronger than should or ought to. It suggests that something negative will happen if you don't take the advice. You had better finish this project, or you might lose your job!

See you on Thursday

Kisses,

Julia
