A report

Good morning Advanced Students!

This week we are going to work on a specific composition: a report.

Just to know a little bit about what a report is, here I have written its meaning as well as some tips you should follow to make it.

What is a report?

A report is written for a clear purpose and to a particular audience. Specific information and evidence are presented, analysed and applied to a particular problem or issue. The information is presented in a clearly structured format making use of sections and headings so that the information is easy to locate and follow.

TIPS FOR WRITING A REPORT

1. Look carefully at whom the report is for and what they need to know. This will help you choose what information you have to include.
2. In the intriduction state what the aim of the report is.
3. Decide what the subdivisions are going to be within the areas of the report and think of headings for them.
4. For each paragraph state the situation (strenghts and weaknesses) and then make a recommendation.
5. If in an exam you are given information on which to base your report, try not to use exactly the same words.
6. Try to use a variety of expressions for generalizing and making suggestions.
7. Use an appropiate professional style, avoiding very informal expressions.

See you later,

Julia
